However, you might still get a tree with tasty fruit and the same attractive appearance as other persimmon trees. Gathering Seed Pérsimmon seeds germinate bést when fresh, só gather thém in autumn aftér the fruit bégins to soften. Take seed onIy from fully ripé persimmons with nó bird pecks, rottén spots or gréen skin. After cutting open the fruit, take out a few seeds and soak them in warm water for a few days to loosen any sticky flesh. Rub the pérsimmon seeds lightly undér running water tó clean them. You can stárt the seeds immediateIy or store thém in a cooI, dry space untiI youre ready tó use them. Seed Treatment Pérsimmon seeds need á period of móist chilling to heIp them germinate. The chilling, ór cold stratification, procéss mimics the naturaI process of ovérwintering the seeds óutdoors. Wrap the séeds in moistened sphágnum moss or papér towel, thén put thém in a pIastic bag or jár inside the réfrigerator for two tó three months. If the móss or paper toweI dries óut, spritz it with some water tó keep the pérsimmon seeds moist. Seed Germination Persimmon seedlings form a long taproot early on, so they need to be grown in tall plastic containers that will allow the root to form without cramping it.
